Cygnet Manor an ‘Outstanding’ caring service in CQC report

We are delighted to announce that, following an inspection on 22-23 November 2018, Cygnet Manor has been rated Good in four areas and Outstanding in the ‘Caring’ category by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Cygnet Manor is a 20 bed high dependency complex care service for men with learning disabilities and associated complex needs. The service is located in Shirebrook, Nottinghamshire.

“I am really proud of our best-ever CQC result which reflects what a great service we have for patients and staff. We are committed to being recognised as an Outstanding service and this result is testament to the attitude and dedication of the team.”Dean Malpass – Registered Manager, Cygnet Manor

The full report (published on the CQC website) highlights many areas of positive practice, including:

  • Care plans were holistic, person centred and focused on achievable recovery goals, they were individualised and focused on skill building required for discharge. Patients were genuinely involved in care planning.
  • Staff ensured that patients had good access to physical health care. Patients had heath action plans and staff promoted healthy life styles.
  • Staff communicated with patients in the way that suited patients’ needs best. The speech and language therapist worked to ensure all information was accessible to all patients.
  • The service worked to deliver on strategy set out in NHS England’ ‘Transforming Care programme.’ Staff and patients started to plan discharge soon after admission and patients were at the centre of discharge planning.
  • Patients were positive about staff attitudes and patients and staff demonstrated mutual respect.
  • There was a person-centred culture in the hospital. Staff went the extra mile to work with patients in a way that suited their individual needs.

“I think it’s a good thing Manor got outstanding for caring. The staff do a really good job.”Service user – Cygnet Manor

Well done to Dean and the rest of the team at Cygnet Manor.
