Columbus Ward visits the Portland Basin

Cygnet Bury Hudson’s Columbus Ward Occupational Therapy Leisure Group recently visited the Portland Basin Museum in Ashton-under-Lyne. The location was chosen and tailored to suit the members of the group to enable maximum interest.

Portland Basin allows visitors to step back in time to a 1920s street, as the sights and sounds of bygone Tameside are brought to life. You can look into their kitchen and parlour to find out how they used to live. Visitors can explore the area’s industrial heritage and discover what life was like down the mines, or on the farm. The group were able to find out more about local crafts and industries and marvel at their historic machines.

The trip was a great success. Columbus Ward’s manager Amy Robinson, commented: “On return from the trip the service users were seen to be bonding over the pictures from the day’s outing. It was wonderful to see them spreading that energy across the ward. A big thanks to the Occupational Therapy team for their constant efforts into getting our service users involved in all activities.”
