Cygnet Aspen House’s Harry Potter Day

Last week Cygnet Aspen House held a day of Harry Potter themed activities. The day was planned and arranged by service users together with the service’s activity coordinators and therapy team.

On the day both staff and service users wore Harry Potter costumes and baked Harry Potter themed treats. Some of the costumes had been hand made by patients using the sewing machine. The unit had been decorated as a scene from Harry Potter and some patients had also made a model of Hogwarts. Patients had also made ‘Mandrakes’ as decoration for the event.

The morning consisted of a Sorting Hat Ceremony where both staff and patients were sorted into one of the four houses (Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw). Following this, Lee, activity coordinator, held a Harry Potter themed quiz followed by a puzzle race based on Harry Potter.

In the afternoon, the therapy team held a Quidditch Tournament in the garden which was well attended and enjoyed by both staff and patients. After this, there was a treasure hunt for a Golden Snitch. Patients collected the snitches in and handed them to Lee who then shouted “Free for all” and launched them all around the garden.

To finish the event the patients then chose to watch a Harry Potter film in the sensory room.
