Cygnet Views celebrates Pride
The team at Cygnet Views celebrated the end of Pride month and the anniversary of Stonewall by holding a ‘Views Pride’ event.
The party was kicked off by party bags on arrival in Reception for staff and service users; these included pin badges, bracelets, sweets and information including fun LGBTQ+ facts, history and flags. This information was provided in easy read format for service users.
A rainbow themed buffet was enjoyed by all, including a rainbow cake that was kindly gifted by the Kitchen Team at Cygnet Manor. This was followed by a visit from ‘Mobile Mini Zoo’, who brought along Archie the ferret, Malone the baby rabbit, a lizard and a snake which the service users were able to cuddle and hold! In the afternoon a local ice cream van called by into the car park and everyone enjoyed Mr Whippy ice creams with colourful sprinkles and juice of their choice.
There was also an arts and crafts activity, during which service users and staff were shown a range of LGBTQ+ flags and a discussion was facilitated regarding various sexual orientations and gender identities. All were asked to choose a flag that they either identify with or simply like the colour of to paint onto their hands to make a ‘Views Pride’ canvas for display in the service. Lots of positive discussions were held with staff and service users being able to be expressive and celebrating being allies of the LGBTQ+ community. There was a disco throughout the day and rainbow face painting!
