Occupational Therapy appreciation event at Cygnet Hospital Beckton
This afternoon, staff at Cygnet Hospital Beckton got together to discuss the Power of Occupation and to celebrate the fantastic work carried out by the hospital’s Occupational Therapy (OT) team. They explored the national theme of OT Week ‘Transforming Health and Social Care’ and the work they have done locally for carer inclusion. Staff shared what they do to support carers and how they have contributed to the Triangle of Care project.
Jennifer Beal, Head of Occupational Therapy at the hospital, said: “Cygnet Hospital Beckton are working to re-organise how we do things – and that we need to do this in partnership with the people who use the service and those who work in it. We need to recognise and support carers as equal partners in care. This approach to engage and support carers will produce better health and wellbeing outcomes and it will reduce demand on our over stretched health services. We also engaged staff in a bead making activity, a simple activity of rolling paper triangles into beads enabled us to share the activity components and work together to produce a necklace. The refreshments, gift bags and speeches definitely contributed to understanding the Power of Occupation.”
