Sports day fun at Cygnet Hospital Wyke
On 15th May Cygnet Hospital Wyke hosted a sports day as part of Mental Health Awareness Week, aimed at breaking down barriers and promoting physical and mental wellbeing among its staff and service users.
The event brought together patients and staff from Phoenix Ward, Bennu Ward, and Adarna Ward, all united with the mutual goal of encouraging a supportive community and challenging stigmas surrounding mental health.
The sports consisted of a variety of activities which staff and patients were involved in. Sporting events ranging from a traditional egg and spoon race to a relaxation session were carefully orchestrated to cater to various interests and abilities, ensuring inclusivity and participation for all.
The day kicked off with a bleep test, challenging people to push their limits and endurance in a high intensity fitness activity. Participants pushed themselves to new heights, embracing the atmosphere of a friendly competition. Those who did not participate in the “bleep test” cheered for encouragement.
Following an energetic start, the atmosphere shifted to an egg and spoon race which was followed by a jump sack race, which demanded strength and agility, as well as endurance from the participants.
Teamwork games were also included, with a three-legged race generating enthusiastic cheers from the crowd.
The day was enhanced by music performances from voluntary performers who took to the stage to showcase their rapping and singing talent while the participants caught their breath.
Winners’ medals and participation certificates were offered as a token of appreciation and encouragement.
