The Fields Residents Enjoy a Successful Fishing Trip
The Fields residents, Daniel and Carl, spent the day fishing at Aston Fisheries, in Sheffield.
They were supported on the fishing trip by The Fields staff and fishing expert Lee, who said:
“Daniel first started showing interest in fishing due to his dad going when he was younger, and then when he heard a staff member talking about it. When offered the opportunity, he couldn’t wait to go. In preparation for the day, Daniel got his licence and myself and some friends donated tackle to The Fields to encourage some of residents to join, should they want to try it too.
Before starting, Daniel helped clean all the poles and nets, and I helped by tieing knots and handling the hooks. Daniel and Carl picked which bait they would like to use and I put it on the hook for them. When they caught a fish, I also helped by netting and unhooking the fish and taking pictures of them both with their catches. Daniel and Carl both enjoy watching the float go under and playing the fish to the net.
Dan thoroughly enjoyed going and said he enjoys catching and seeing the fish but he also likes the time outside with the nature around him. He also likes spending time with his friend Carl, who Daniel invited to join for the day.
At Aston Fisheries, there is a lovely café where the guys like to take their rods, and enjoy a burger and chips whilst Daniel talks to the staff about his catches. After a year and a half of catching smaller fish and learning how things are done, Daniel is very excited to catch much bigger fish in the future. I try to plan the trips to different places for different scenery and different sizes and types of fish so the residents can truly enjoy fishing for what it is. Sometimes its not the catching fish, sometimes its about catching a peace of mind. I am a big believer in the positive mental health benefits from fishing and the residents really feel the benefits too!”
Dan commented, “I caught twenty fish, including five roaches, a barble and four small carp. After our fishing we went for a burger, which was fab!”
