Anthony Saiger, Hospital Manager for Cygnet Hospital Hexham who won the Mental Health Team of the Year award, said: “This award means so much to our team as it recognises the hard work and dedication taken to ensure we are delivering care of the highest quality in what can be a very intense environment.

Dr Ali Shojaie, winner of the SAS Doctor of the Year award, said: “I am deeply honored to receive the SAS Doctor of the Year award. Reflecting on my journey, I recall the demanding period when I was working on the acute female ward for nearly two years while simultaneously pursuing my PhD, publishing papers, and preparing for my MRCPsych exams. In hindsight, I can acknowledge the immense effort required, but I must emphasize that this achievement would not have been possible without the exceptional support of my team at Cygnet.
“The unwavering encouragement I received from my colleagues will forever remain in my heart. I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to all my supervisors at Cygnet, including Dr. Dale Lawrence, Dr. Richard Church, Dr. Hashim Zainy, and Dr. Rizwan Saleem. Each of them was there to offer guidance and support whenever I needed it.
“I am profoundly thankful to Cygnet for providing me with this opportunity to grow and flourish in my career. This recognition is a testament to the collaborative spirit and supportive environment fostered by the entire team.”
Dr Rebecca Lasseko, winner of the Consultant Psychiatrist of the Year award, said: “I am still in awe of receiving the award of Consultant Psychiatrist of the Year. Seeing my team celebrating in excitement and hearing my patients’ say well done you deserve this! It humbles me.
“I could not have done this without my maker, my team, wider community of psychiatrists in Cygnet and NHS, my patients’, my friends and family. I dedicate this award to them because they all deserve it. I am proud to be a doctor in Cygnet”
