Cygnet achieves 100% CQUIN compliance for 2015-16

We are delighted to announce that Cygnet Health Care has achieved 100% compliance with all CQUIN indicators for all of its NHS contracts across the UK for the contract year 2015-16. This is the fifth consecutive year that Cygnet has achieved 100% compliance.

In 2015-16 there were six CQUINs we were measured against, these were:

  • Improving Physical Healthcare for Patients with Severe Mental Illness
  • Supporting Service Users in Secure Services to Stop Smoking
  • Active Engagement of Service Users in their Risk Assessment and Management within Secure Services
  • Secure Services Carer Involvement Strategies
  • Eating Disorders Outcome Measures
  • Improving Patient, Family and Carers’ Experience of CAMHS Admissions

“These were again of the highest standard and provided significant evidence across all submissions, for all services in respect of every element of the CQUIN requirements.”Wendy Searle, Senior Supplier Manager Mental Health, NHS England South

To help achieve compliance, the last year has seen some exciting initiatives at Cygnet. Details of just some of these initiatives can be found below.

Active Engagement of Service Users in their Risk Assessment and Management within Secure Services

Following on from the 2014-15 CQUIN on collaborative risk assessment, in 2015-16 secure services furthered the work they had commenced around training staff and service users in a collaborative manner. In addition to on-going training in risk assessment and management, service users worked collaboratively with staff to develop their risk assessment and management plans. In addition to 100% of service user being offered the opportunity to actively engage in the developed of their risk assessment and management plans, other service developments that came out of the surveys conducted included:

  • Adaptation of the training materials provided to further meet service users’ needs; based on service user feedback.
  • Inclusion of service users in the delivery of training.
  • Service users being offered the opportunity to contribute to their risk assessment and management plans via an increased number of forums.

“We are pleased that these efforts – from ward staff to the Executive Management Board, have been recognised by our commissioners and 100% CQUIN compliance in 2015-16 has been achieved. A key to delivering this has been to work collaboratively with service users, to gain buy-in from all stakeholders and to embed quality initiatives into everyday practice.”Mayowa Soluade, Head of Commercial and Contract Compliance

Engagement of Carers of Service Users in Secure Services

As part of the delivery of this CQUIN, Cygnet Health Care’s secure services submitted case studies from across secure services to demonstrate some of the work that is taking place with carers. These case studies evidenced that in addition to the development of carers newsletters, carers open days etc., development of carers’ pages on the organisation’s website; Cygnet services are providing support to carers in a number of other ways.

The case studies covered a wide range of activities including home visits where carers were able, for example, to receive psychoeducational support and ask questions in the comfort of their homes, carer input into care plans for their loved ones and as a by-product of this, carers being offered advice and support on how to manage certain aspects of their loved one’s presentation and to understand their diagnosis better.

Improving CAMHS Patient, Family And Carers’ Admission Experience

The CQUIN involved the co-development of Patient Portfolios with patients which serve as a personal record of the service user’s time within the service; a place to keep a range of information such as welcome guides, details of key people in the service user’s care, copies of care plans and therapy material etc. The CQUIN also sought feedback from carers and services users on the admissions process via an inpatient and discharge survey. As part of responding to the feedback received, the service developed You Said, We Did posters which have been displayed on the wards.
