Lister Ward provides a safe and stabilising environment for individuals who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission.
The ethos of the service is about assessing and treating service users in the least restrictive environment and planning for discharge in a robust and timely fashion.
With a focus on stabilisation, the Lister Ward team will support service users to manage their mental health, reinforce daily living skills and prepare for independent life back in the community.
Lister Ward is the second of two new acute mental health services to open at Cygnet Hospital Bierley. Earlier this year the Bradford-based hospital also opened a new acute mental health service for women, Blossom Ward.
Kate Gorse-Brightmore, Hospital Manager, said: “At Cygnet we are committed to offering specialist services that meet individual needs. Lister Ward will provide much-needed care for the rising number of men in need of emergency mental health support and we remain committed to working in partnership with the NHS and other local agencies to help meet that need through the provision of person-centred care.”
