Blossom Ward provides a safe and stabilising environment for individuals who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission.
The ethos of the service is about assessing and treating service users in the least restrictive environment and planning for discharge in a robust and timely fashion.
With a focus on stabilisation, the Blossom Ward team will support service users to manage their mental health, reinforce daily living skills and prepare for independent life back in the community.
Blossom Ward is the first of two new acute mental health services to open at Cygnet Hospital Bierley. The Bradford-based hospital will also be opening a new acute mental health service for men, Lister Ward, in May 2023.
Kate Gorse-Brightmore, Hospital Manager, said: “At Cygnet we are committed to offering specialist services that meet individual needs. Blossom Ward will provide much-needed care for the rising number of women in need of emergency mental health support and we remain committed to working in partnership with the NHS and other local agencies to help meet that need through the provision of person-centred care.”
