Gary, an Expert by Experience, worked with service users and management in identifying the items for the proposed hub which included everything from a full gaming suite, arcade machines and sensory lighting to an aromatherapy diffuser, bean bags and recording studio equipment.
On the day itself a team was assembled to help with renovating an old IT room. The team included Gary, Cygnet’s Expert by Experience Lead Raf Hamaizia and Javaid Razzaq, an activity coordinator from Cygnet Hospital Bierley who had helped lead on the first social hub.
In addition to transforming the room they took some service users to a local shopping centre to get some extra bits and pieces including posters and cables.
Upon finishing the latest social hub Raf Hamaizia said: “It is refreshing to see how quickly the hubs are growing and the amazing feedback we are getting from both service users and staff alike.
“This has been a real journey of co-production and sharing best practice between sites to enhance therapeutic environments and meaningful activity to support recovery.
“I’d like to say a big thanks to Gary, the service users at Brighouse, the People’s Council, Jav from Cygnet Hospital Bierley, Annie Fishburn and the estate’s team and Katie the manager of Cygnet Lodge Brighouse.”
