In 2006 the National Dignity Council launched the Dignity in Care campaign. The campaign’s core values are about having dignity in our hearts minds and actions, changing the culture of services and placing a greater emphasis on improving the quality of care and the experience of citizens using services.
Taking as a starting point the ten principles of the National Dignity Council’s Dignity Challenge we devised a comprehensive checklist for our teams to provide evidence to support that they met each of the principles.
Once the evidence had been collated and sent in it was reviewed by our Regional Directors and Quality Assurance officers. Those services that successfully met each requirement were each presented with a bespoke plaque to demonstrate their ongoing commitment to providing our residents, staff and visitors with dignity in our care, support and service.
We are proud to have worked closely on Cygnet’s Dignity in Care Awards with the National Dignity Council who’s Chair Jan Burns MBE, sent this message:
“On behalf of the National Dignity Council may I express our extreme gratitude to Cygnet for the dedication and commitment they have shown to promote dignity. To hear that a large number of sites across the organisation have now been awarded a Dignity in Care Award is heartening not only for the people who use and deliver services but also for the wider workforce to feel inspired to join the campaign. Thank you to everyone for having dignity in your hearts, minds and actions delivering with kindness, respect and compassion.”
Liz Brooks, Managing Director of Cygnet’s Social Care division said, “Well done to all colleagues involved, I think this is something to be incredibly proud of, especially given that our teams have been dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic and keeping everyone safe and well. I have seen some inspiring examples of best practice and look forward to promoting dignity throughout our services.”
Thank you to all our staff who continue to take part in this exciting Cygnet project. The delivery of dignity in care remains at the heart of our Cygnet’s core values.
