Birmingham Pride has become one of the most important LGBTQ+ festivals in the UK since its launch in 1997 and it’s estimated that more than 75,000 people joined this year’s parade as they walked, danced, and travelled on decorated floats through the city centre to the festival’s base at Smithfield.
The event aims to play a leading role in building a community where all people are free to live without fear or prejudice, empowering the LGBTQ+ community and challenging injustices, inequality and discrimination for all of our communities.
Mia Bains, Executive Assistant to our HR Director, helped organise and attend the celebration for Cygnet. Mia said “It was an absolute honour for our Cygnet employees and service users to join together on the streets of Birmingham and wave the flag for equality. Everyone enjoyed the event and the sun even made an appearance!
“The Pride Parade is a march for equality and justice, and it is relevant until every injustice to LGBTQ+ people around the world is brought to an end and universal equality is achieved.
“It is a space where we all come together to celebrate LGBTQ+ achievements, life, and love – a safe space where everyone can be who they want to be without fear or prejudice. At Cygnet, we are passionate about making everyone feel welcome, no matter who they are or what their background or experience may be.
“We were well-equipped and represented with Cygnet Pride t-shirts, hand-held flags, huge signage, and flag poles.
“A big thank you to the Marketing team and all involved who made the day such a great success. Also, a big thank you to all who made their way to Birmingham to celebrate love and diversity in this wonderful way.”
