General Manager, Grant Stevens, gave an overview of the wide range of inpatient mental health services for men and women including specialist deaf services and care provided for children and young people. He was shown around three different wards and was keen to understand the range of support provided to help individuals on their mental health recovery journey.
The hospital off Bolton Road in Bury has 168 beds and James had the opportunity to chat to a service user about their own personal experience and aspirations for the future, which include working in education to raise awareness of mental health.
Speaking during the visit Mr Daly said: “It was brilliant to visit this fantastic facility that provides such important support for those struggling with their mental health. I would like to thank the staff who took the time to speak with me, they are incredibly hard-working and passionate people who go above and in the care of their patients.
“I look forward to seeing the plans for the future of this vital facility being put into place.”
Rated Good by the Care Quality Commission the hospital was credited by the regulator for the provision of safe care, where service users feel well supported. The on-site school for children in the CAMHS wards received a glowing report from Ofsted earlier this year and inspectors praised staff for being ‘determined that pupils receive every opportunity to succeed’.
Grant Stevens, General Manager at Cygnet Hospital Bury said: “We know the pandemic has had a detrimental impact on many people’s mental health which is why services like those provided at Cygnet Hospital Bury are so important. We are currently completing building work on new facilities at our hospital so that we can provide an additional 18 beds for men suffering mental health challenges.
“We plan to open the new purpose built facility this summer and we were really pleased to be able to share our work and future plans with Mr Daly.
“Having local support for the work we do is vital and we are also grateful to the local community and our neighbours for the links we enjoy with them as it helps with our service users’ recovery and reintegration.
“Now that Covid restrictions have eased, we want to welcome more visitors to learn more about the work we do here. I’m incredibly proud of the staff team at Cygnet Hospital Bury for the work they have done to keep our service users safe during the pandemic, whilst still maintaining the quality standards.”
