For Cygnet Sherwood Lodge, our specialist residential hospital for men with learning disabilities in Mansfield, one activity they have access to is visiting the seaside town of Skegness. Recently the men from Cygnet Sherwood Lodge visited the seaside for a walk along the beach and a picnic. They were accompanied by Lady the French Bulldog therapy dog, who they also had the opportunity to play with.
Many of our services give service users access to animals as part of their treatment, such as Lady and Whispa at our Alders personality disorder rehabilitation hospital. This kind of activity has proven benefits in helping people with mental health issues connect to the world around them and develop emotional understanding.
Where possible, we provide opportunities for service users to get involved in animal care through therapeutic earnings. This allows selected service users to earn a wage, providing a greater sense of responsibility and achievement.
