Vicki with Riccardo, Sagal and Baroness Floella Benjamin

Congratulations to Vicki, a service user from Cygnet Elms, who attended the Women Achieving Greatness in Social Care Awards (WAGS) on Thursday 28th November as a highly commended finalist in the Inspirational Volunteer category.

Now in it’s 3rd year, WAGS celebrates the achievements of women in social care. Vicki was accompanied by Therapy Coordinator, Riccardo Brade, and Support Worker, Sagal Sahid. to the event which took place at the Hilton Bankside in London.

The night was full of empowering stories from a variety of different women who all work within the healthcare and social care sector. The awards were presented by Baroness Floella Benjamin, who praised Vicki for her achievements.

Vicki said:”I feel really honoured to have been nominated, a finalist, and a ‘highly commended’ nominee for the WAGS awards. It was a great experience and was very posh. I feel proud of this achievement. Thank you to those who shared this moment with me and for nominating me for such a prestigious award.”

She added: “I love rainbows. I use Makaton and enjoy teaching it to other patients and staff. I love the creative arts and I’m doing a PhD at the University of Birmingham.”

Riccardo said: “Out of all the nominations in her category Vicki was recognised as ‘highly commended’, demonstrating how impactful her work was seen to be by the judges. Vicki had a great night and enjoyed a three course meal and entertainment from a Spice Girl’s tribute band. Throughout the night, different women continued to share their stories and experiences, which was utterly inspiring. The message of girl power was evident throughout the entire event and left all of the attendees feeling empowered, knowing that their work was being recognised.

“Everyone at Cygnet Elms is proud of Vicki for her achievement and hopes that she continues to share her experiences and work on things she is passionate about.”

This award is the latest recognition for Vicki. Last year she won the Hope and Positivity Award for her Makaton training at the 2023 National Service User Awards.
