Wyvern Ward supports up to 19 men in a high support inpatient rehabilitation (level 2) environment who have severe and enduring mental illness and/or personality disorder who may have been detained under the Mental Health Act.
The Quality Network for Inpatient Mental Health Rehabilitation Services (Rehab) works with rehabilitation wards and units to assess and improve the quality of care they provide. It engages staff, patients and carers in a comprehensive process of self and peer review to enable services to identify areas of good practice and areas for development. Services are encouraged to use peer review visits, and other member events, to share knowledge and ideas with others, creating a mutually supportive environment which encourages learning, and leads to positive change.
Accreditation involves the assessment of their competence and fairness and the compliance of their work to nationally recognised standards, around matters such as care planning, staffing, the environment and community links.
Amongst other things the peer review team assess patient environment, workforce training and support, admission and assessment, treatment and recovery and safeguarding.
Mark Varney, Hospital Manager, said: “We are incredibly proud to receive this accreditation in recognition of the excellent standards of care.
“Men often come to us following multiple placement breakdowns, failed treatment programmes or stepping down from secure settings and staff show huge dedication, compassion and skill to increase an individual’s life skills to prepare them effectively for life outside a hospital environment.
“On Wyvern Ward we provide a supportive environment and are very proud of the outcomes we achieve for the men in our care and we are delighted our hard work and achievements have been recognised through this accreditation.”
